The stadium is home to FC Seoul, the most popular football club in the city since 2004. It was one of the venues of the 2002 FIFA World Cup. The national football team of Senegal beat France and Turkey beat China in the stadium. The last match of the FIFA World Cup was the semifinal between South Korea and Germany. The national soccer team of South Korea, also known as the Taegeuk Warriors, often use the stadium for their home games.
